Blue light therapy has been shown to be an effective treatment for SAD, seasonal affective disorder, or the “winter blues.”

This is a medical condition caused by the seasonal change in the amount of sunlight available.

It affects up to 10% of the population, especially in the north, with a greater variation in daylight from summer to winter.

Medical research has found that it affects women more than men at a ratio of almost 3 to 1.

In its mildest form, the “winter blues” includes a lack of energy, depression, apathy, and cravings for sweet foods and carbohydrates, all of which I tend to experience from the first week of November through early March.

It can become more debilitating when it includes trouble sleeping, changes in appetite or weight, memory loss, poor concentration, severe depression, and confusion.
