When you’re feeling tired and emotionally drained, it may be tempting to push yourself to carry on with your usual activities. Spending time resting and restoring your energy is much more productive in the end. With just ten to twenty minutes of rest, you can return to your activities refreshed and work more efficiently.

One of the best ways to rest is to do nothing. Find a quiet place, sit comfortably, and allow yourself to relax. Avoid focusing your mind on anything in particular. Allow your thoughts to drift lazily, which will give your mind and body a break. Taking a short nap (10 to 20 minutes) is very effective in rejuvenating the mind and body.

Many people believe that watching television is a good way to rest, however, this could not be further from the truth. Even though your mind may be only partially occupied, your mind is still occupied and you don’t have the benefit of being focused on anything or drifting.

We are taught that doing nothing is self-defeating and lazy, which can cause you to develop the habit of being busy for the sake of being busy. While living productive lives is important, you also need periods of rest and quiet to recharge your batteries.

When you let go of all activities and allow yourself to do nothing, you immediately begin to feel more balanced and at peace. The calming of your mind and body eliminates distractions and allows you to connect on a deeper level with your spiritual center. You will regain your energy and feel more productive again. By quietly resting and relaxing, feelings of fatigue dissipate and will be replaced by energized optimism.
