About 10 years ago I learned how I could use an herb for hot flashes. I can remember when I started experiencing hot flashes. There were times when, while going about my daily activities, working at my desk, or completing my daily choir, I would suddenly experience a sensation of intense heat along with sweating and heart palpitations. The sensations usually last from two to thirty minutes for each occurrence. Often the feeling of heat would start on my face and run through my entire body.

The event repeated several times a week, or sometimes constantly throughout the day. They were always unpredictable. A feeling of lethargy would accompany the feeling of suffocation. After experiencing shame, frustration, irritability, and sometimes even depression, I decided to visit my local health food store. I wanted to talk to a nutritionist about my symptoms. After providing the nutritionist with the symptoms I described above, she informed me that she was experiencing menopause.

The nutritionist suggests that she try Damiana for relief. Prior to the suggestion, he had never heard of the herb. I tried it right away and the rest is history… I started taking Damiana daily. Both my hot flashes and symptoms of lethargy were significantly reduced. So for years I have been taking Damiana as part of my daily herbal supplement because it has greatly improved my stamina. Also, it relieves menopausal symptoms you may be having, i.e. hot flashes, migraine, feeling bloated, and lethargy.

There are two types of herbs for menopause relief. They are phytoestrogenic and non-estrogenic. A phytoestrogenic herb contains components of estrogen which is produced by plants. The estrogens from these herbs treat hormonal imbalance by initiating plant-based estrogens in the body.

Non-estrogenic herbs are plants that do not have estrogenic properties. As a result of menopause, the estrogen produced by the ovaries is significantly reduced. Non-estrogenic herbs for menopause do not contain estrogen or hormones, but they do stimulate hormone production in the body.

After further research, I found that Damiana is used as an herbal medicine to treat a wide variety of conditions. The herb has been associated with helping with low estrogen levels, hot flashes, impotence, infertility, menopause, and PMS (premenstrual tension). Damiana can be taken as an extract, in capsule form, or as crushed dried leaves.

Before consuming any herb for hot flashes, I suggest you do your research and consult with a progressive and knowledgeable health professional.
