Vatsyayana was a wise man who recognized the sometimes necessary desire for discretion. He knew very well that a sudden burst of unexpected pregnancies in the harem of the king or another neighbor’s wife could have some pretty serious consequences, but as the saying goes “It is better to be a live dog than a dead lion”, and sometimes the temptation is just a little too much
As the Kama Sutra said about these clandestine sexual relations: “No place is as poorly protected as a harem. And no woman is more accessible than the king’s wives. A determined young man only has to choose how to achieve his ends.
Hidden inside a barrel or disguised as a maid, it will easily fool casual sentinels and overworked butlers. You can also try to make yourself invisible using an appropriate potion. But the result is uncertain. The king’s wives like to play games with strangers that are forbidden with her husband. The young man and the noble lady are lying against each other, from head to tail.
He explores her yoni as her pretty mouth gobbles down her lingam greedily. It is Kalila the crow, the posture of slaves and maids, that the queens like so much.” Vatsyayana went on to describe the steps and variations of oral sex in the hope that her students might live to enjoy another day.
The fellatio method in the Kama Sutra
The Kama Sutra describes the act of fellatio in great detail, breaking it down into individual steps. It is described in the following quotes.
“When your lover takes your lingam in his hand and, forming his lips in an ‘O’, gently places them on the tip, moving his head in small circles, this first step is called Nimitta.” Nimitta translates as touching.
“Then, holding his head in your hand, press your lips tightly around the shaft, first on one side and then on the other, being very careful that his teeth do not hurt you. This is Parshvatoddashta.” This is called side biting.
“Now she takes the tip of your lingam gently between her lips, pressing it, kissing it tenderly and pulling at its soft skin in turns. This is Bahiha-samdansha.” This is called the outside pliers.
“If he then allows the head to slide completely into his mouth and presses the shaft firmly between his lips, holding it for a moment before withdrawing it, it is Antaha-samdansha.” This translates as the internal tweezers.
“When she feels your orgasm is imminent, she swallows the entire lingam, sucking and working with her lips and tongue until you spend it, this is Sangara.” Sangara literally means swallowed whole.
The cunnilingus method in the Kama Sutra
Of course, one good deed always deserves another, and this was no less true in ancient Hindu culture. Thus Vatsyayana’s Kama Sutra went on to describe the reciprocal act of cunnilingus for the man who wanted to return the favor.
“With the tips of your delicate fingers, pinch the arched lips of your love house very, very slowly, and kiss them as if you were kissing your lower lip; this is Adhara-sphuritam.” This translates as the Trembling Kiss.
“Now extend, in fact split in two, that arch with your nose and let your tongue gently explore his yoni, with your nose, lips and chin slowly circling. It becomes Jihva-bhramanaka.” Also called Circulating Language.
“Let your tongue rest for a moment on the archway leading to the flower-arched temple of the Lord before you enter to worship vigorously, causing your seed to flow. This is Jihva-mardita” or the massage of the tongue.
“Then press your lips to hers and take deep kisses from this beautiful, your beloved, nibbling on her and strongly sucking on her clitoris – this is called Chushita.” This Chushita translates as Sucked.
“Place your beloved on a sofa, place her feet on your shoulders, hug her around the waist, suck hard and let your tongue stir her overflowing temple of love. This is called Bahuchushita” or Hard Sucking.
“If the two of you lie down next to each other, facing opposite directions, and kiss each other’s secret parts using the ten techniques described above, it is known as Kalila.” Kalila means the Raven.
