I have used this hotel twice before on previous business trips to Chicago. The mere fact that I have been there twice already indicates that I am satisfied with the service and the facilities. I must admit that the rates are high, but the location is excellent and the service impeccable. As far as location, there is little room for improvement as it is in the middle of Michigan Avenue. All amenities are close by, including shopping, dining, and other entertainment.

The rooms are large and the furnishings are top quality. I was pleased to find that the chairs were really comfortable to sit in and work on rather than just props as they seem to be in other hotels. The beds are also excellent and if you have trouble sleeping you can’t blame them. Bathrooms are also a good size and equally well equipped with double baths and showers. Some even include televisions and would rather be described as a micro spa than a bathroom. In fact, these bathrooms are so luxurious that they alone were the main reason for my return to the hotel. I love a good bathroom and they seem to be getting harder to find these days.

I also found the decor and aesthetics of the hotel to be quite pleasing. It is decorated in a modern style which works well. Chic, yet warm and stylish without being overly flashy or overwhelming. If you are tired and prefer to dine in the hotel than go out, there is an excellent restaurant with a great selection of wines, great views and an excellent sushi bar. The menu is modern French and I found it to be a happy exception to the “never eat in a hotel or sleep in a restaurant” rule. Another draw for me is the excellent gym that includes a beautiful pool with views, hot tub and sauna.

On the work side of the equation, things are equally well organized. The communication and connectivity facilities in the rooms are excellent. My only complaint is that high speed internet is not free, which I find unjustifiable in an establishment of this caliber. Overall, the service and quality of experience is what one would expect from a well-run luxury establishment. The staff is helpful, courteous and competent, and the guest is almost bombarded with more perks than I can list in this short note.

To sum up a luxury hotel that feels luxurious and provides an experience that justifies the rates charged. If you choose the Park Hyatt, you may end up feeling like you’ve overspent, but you’ll never feel cheated.
