How to remove purple tint from windows in the sun

The art of removing tint from windows has been around for many years and is a technical skill. Window films produced in the late 1980s and 1990s are not as well built as current films for a number of reasons. Those films are made from dyed polyester and don’t have the UV protection that some of today’s premium films have.

The good thing for you is that most films are not that difficult to remove. You just need a couple of tools and guidance. I am going to go into detail on the proper steps to take to remove this troublesome material from your glass.

The Razor Blade and Heat Gun Technique:

Take the heat gun first and heat the film on both sides of the glass while remembering not to burn the trim and door panel of the vehicle in question. After the glass and tint have warmed to the touch, take your stainless steel bladed razor scraper and start at a top corner of the window and gently peel the tint off.

After moving the peel with your fingers, begin to pull the tint evenly along the window while keeping the heat gun moving. After the dye has been removed, simply spray the excess adhesive with a baby shampoo and water solution and begin the scraping process.

The Vaporizer and Razor Technique:

This technique is the fastest, but requires an investment in a vaporizer that is configured for this type of work. Steaming the tint heats up the material and also helps the adhesive from the window tint wash off with the tint. The vaporizer will generally not harm the car, but it can cause burns to your hands, so be careful. When the dye starts to come off, just keep smoking and pulling until the dye is removed. Then steam and scrape off all remaining areas of the window tint process.

The scrape and scrape and scrape technique:

This is the worst-case technique of all, and it also carries the most responsibility. Some vehicles have window tint that has been burned by the sun for so long that it is difficult to remove. The worst area for this is in the rear glass of today’s cars and trucks. Scraping these areas can damage the rear defrosters and cause them to stop working. This technique should be performed by a trained professional window tint remover.
