Some cities have stories that unfold slowly and then seem to blossom overnight. Chino Hills, California, is one of them.
Chino Hills, California, located in San Bernardino County, is well known for its high quality of life and beautiful rural setting. During the 1920s and 1930s, Sleepy Hollow, a Chino Hills community facility and equestrian area that still operates today, was a perfect weekend getaway from the fast pace of Los Angeles. In 1928, Sleepy Hollow was a summer resort with some 90 cabins, some of which are still in use. After World War II, these newer cabins and dwellings became permanent residences.
As the years passed, more and more people discovered the untouched hills and rural area located just a short distance from downtown Los Angeles. Residents appreciated the green hills and beautiful views of the community, and Chino Hills grew during the 1980s and 1990s. By 1982, when the community’s long-term development plan was approved, there were approximately 4,000 homes and 12,000 residents in Chino Hills.
Chino Hills, California is a relatively young city incorporated on December 1, 1991. Chino Hills is also home to a young and professional workforce. Nearly 40% of Chino Hills’ adult residents have a bachelor’s degree or higher, and the community ranks among the top 15 cities in Southern California for the proportion of residents employed as executives, professionals, or technology specialists who contribute to the city’s median income of $93,332.
With its rolling hills and beautiful views, its accessibility to all three neighboring counties, Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino, via major highways, excellent schools and convenient shopping, Chino Hills’ reputation is growing as an attractive place to live in Southern California. .
In fact, Dr. John Husing, an Inland Empire economics expert, has nothing but good things to say about the community, calling Chino Hills “one of Southern California’s best kept secrets.” With so many of its well-planned housing and public development projects still underway and developing within 46 square miles, Chino Hills’ appeal as a residential community won’t be a secret for long.
