I learned about Geoff Thompson’s “Warrior: A Path to Self-Sovereignty” from a friend of mine. He sent me the book thinking that I would enjoy it as I live and teach on similar principles. Well, Nick knows me well, because I really enjoyed this book. It reinforced some of my own beliefs and made me think about others. While it is a great book for martial artists to read, I believe that anyone who wants to live more powerfully can learn from this book and be braver and live more purposeful lives.

The warrior mentality that Thompson writes about in this book is similar to my teachings from Warrior’s Edge. We are both helping people regain their warrior status and live with more determination and power, regardless of whether they have occupations in the military, law enforcement, security, or related fields, and regardless of whether they practice martial arts. Living like a warrior, basing your life on the principles Thompson shares and guides you in this text, is for anyone and everyone who wants to maximize their potential and live life to the fullest.

The chapters focus on various traits and ways of living. These include: Seeking a difficult life, Seeking self-control, Being kind, Being hardworking, Being virtuous, Making no excuses, Living in the present, Being a responsible parent, Being balanced, Being spiritual, Living free, Mentoring others, Serving to others and live with the concept of kaizen. As you can see, this book is not about fighting or learning to use weapons or other instruments of war. This book focuses on developing a warrior mentality that allows you to live like a warrior, live with courage.

I was familiar with Geoff Thompson from his book, “Dead or Alive,” with Paladin Press, who also published my first book and DVD. I knew then that Thompson knew a lot about fighting and self defense. However, I now know that he has branched out from his original teachings on aspects of fighting and defense to the mental and self-development areas that martial arts and arts of war can also help a person to manifest. It is a path similar to the one I am following and that others have followed. Maybe it comes with age, maturity, and wisdom. And wisdom is something that Thompson has and shares. I’m looking forward to reading more of your books, and I’m glad my friend Nick told me about them. (And he was kind enough to send me a couple.)

If you want to read an interesting book on self-development, which will share part of Thompson’s journey to help you in yours, I highly recommend “Warrior: A Path to Self-Sovereignty.” Not only did I enjoy reading it, I looked at my own life to make sure I’m living on the road as Thompson suggests, and I will look back at this book to help me stay on track and assist with my Warrior’s Edge teachings.
